Luciana – 4K Video Bonus

This week we’ve added an extra video into the normal member’s section.  However we need your feedback.  We are now shooting all videos in 4k!  Meaning crisper, higher quality videos than what we already shoot.  The challenge is fitting these videos into a reasonable file size, in order to do that we are using the new h.265 HEVC codec for rendering videos.  This codec may require you to use a player different from what you’re used to and may not even play properly at all on outdated equipment.

Please comment below on whether the video plays properly for you, what system you’re using (Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Mac, etc) and what player you’re using.  I’ve been able to play the videos fine with the standard Windows Media Player using Windows 10 also with mpv player https://mpv.io/ , and with MX Player and mPlayer on Android (Note 5).  So far, I haven’t been able to get the videos to play properly with VLC Player, which is usually the go-to player for video compatibility.

Running windows 7. I would rather keep the videos at a smaller file size. I have the capacity to download at speeds of >15MB/sec ; however, the inherent download speed I can pull from your servers has never been greater than approximately 2MB/sec.
Likewise, I have had problems running 4K videos in the past. Just some thoughts from a long term member – Thanks!

    Just music

  3. admin September 13, 2016 9:51 am

You haven’t stated whether the video plays properly or not

  4. jolo562 September 13, 2016 10:01 am

video doesnt play for me. its just an audio file

  5. fmgfmg September 13, 2016 10:29 am

Win7, i5-4690, 8GB RAM, GeForce GTX660 (so perhaps a little bit outdated system, but not really):
    – VLC 2.2.4: shows audio and something that looks like it should be a video, but not watchable, absolutely not fluid: CPU-capacity 4x >95% when video runs.
    – WMP 12 doesn’t show the video, only audio. codec problem, but I didn’t find any possibility to get it shown.
    – Potplayer 1.6: works nearly(!) fluid, but CPU-capacity 99-100%. But Potplayer is no good video player software in my opinion. So I really hope that this video size and codec will not be the only download size / option for future videos…

I love it. Would love all videos with this quality. Running Windows 10, plays great on Movies & TV app and Windows Media, not so great with VLC (choppy). Looks excellent on my 65 inch SUHD. Almost like Luciana is in my living room with me

  7. mefinneg September 13, 2016 10:40 am

Oh, maybe give the end-user an option of quality. I would love all the sites to be this quality.

  8. admin September 13, 2016 10:44 am

Offering two quality options is more work, and more server space, so normally I’d prefer to avoid it, but in this case we might do it since there are known issues with playing 4k videos using h.265 codec.

  9. perroviejo8 September 13, 2016 10:56 am

I have Windows 10. It only plays audio on windows media player. With VLC I get some video, but it mostly freezes.

  10. admin September 13, 2016 11:29 am

    Try using mpv Player, https://mpv.io

  11. dapanz September 13, 2016 12:43 pm

I got Windows 10 and the video is playable only on windows media player but in slow motion

  12. rhs2828 September 13, 2016 12:52 pm

Downloaded it on my Samsung 6 phone. It plays but freezes a lot.

  13. eikacj September 13, 2016 1:28 pm

Will not play on iPhone 6

  14. mrbigz September 13, 2016 1:29 pm

Awesome clear as day. Quality is better and well worth it…✌??

  15. jd9114 September 13, 2016 2:07 pm

Windows 10. New Dell desktop with plenty of memory and upgraded everything. VLC shows the video but doesn’t play it (super choppy), and doesn’t play at all on Windows media player. Updated DivX player and tried to play but very choppy didn’t really play either. so, no go on Windows Media, VLC or DivX.

  16. hardworkout September 13, 2016 2:10 pm

Well, 1GB is a long download on my DSL, but wow, that video looked stunning. 1080p suddenly looking “fuzzy”.

Windows 7 64-bit, Media Player Classic Home Cinema 1.7.7 (mpc-hc.org). Plays great. 4790K, 16GB, GTX1070, 3440×1440. CPU usage is about 40%, bursting up to 80% on a seek. Versus about 5% and 10% for the older vids.

We need a second test though, I think. Say a rerelease of Clarina’s recent bonus level 4 vid?

  17. admin September 13, 2016 2:19 pm

This 1GB video is 4.50GB in raw format. It’s the h.265 codec that’s able to compress it as much as it does but uses much more computer processing power to get the videos to play.

  18. phrank September 13, 2016 2:20 pm

    Downloaded on a MacBook Pro i7 2.3ghz, 16gb ram, Nvidia GeForce GT 750M 2GB.

    •Quicktime couldn’t play it.
•VLC could play it, but just heard audio.
    •Blu-Ray Player couldn’t play it.
•Cisdem player played video and audio. Video is in slow-motion and CPU is at 43%

  19. eikacj September 13, 2016 2:24 pm

played on VCL BUT NOT VERY WELL

  20. per_262_sil September 13, 2016 2:28 pm

    Hi !
Thanks a lot to always try to improve the quality of your products (if if is still possible ? !)
I will limit my comments on the technical aspects… because Luciana is a wonderfull dream, you know !!!
    My OS is Windows 10
As you expected the latest version of VLC could not read the video (except the soundtrack) neither could an old version of ACDSee manager nor Quick Time player.
On Windows Media Player, the image was perfect, smooth without any problem ….. but on a second attempt, I noticed something weird :
    – The progress bar came to the end at the end of the clip
    – The soundtrack stopped at the same moment (logically)
    – But the clip went on in slow motion nearly twice the time of the progress bar and sound !
Well, Luciana in slow motion is absolutely irresistible…
But I believe that the sound and progress bar were correct (no sound distortion) (about 4 min and 3 sec), and the video clip continued in slow motion for more than 6 minutes.
I have a very old slow PC but I use to read 4K videos without any problem of this kind…. I was also dowloading files in the backgroung ….
So , I tried again for the 3rd time with a clean config and no background activity …. and I still experience the same problems….
    I hope I could help you…
    Best regards

MPV works fine (Windows 10) Thanks!!!

  22. oobacon September 13, 2016 4:21 pm

Windows 10, 4670k, 16gig ram. Runs great! I would love the 4k option for videos!

  23. valentinarocks September 13, 2016 4:47 pm

Played fine on my Windows 10 machine with Windows Media Player. Couldn’t get it to work in VLC though.

  24. 602rebelthought September 13, 2016 5:51 pm

Windows 8, video freezes. You are giving me a reason to hurry up and upgrade…

  25. foggynotion September 13, 2016 6:15 pm

Windows 10 using Media Player works and looks great. I definitely support the 4k videos. No success with VLC.

  26. 1auaua01 September 13, 2016 7:20 pm

i have the download speed, but no player i have tried has been able to play the vids smoothly, or even at all. mac book air about 2 years old, no problems with any of the other vids.

  27. rararara September 13, 2016 7:25 pm

Windows 10, brand new Dell Inspiron i7 processor, with a 4K monitor. Image looked GREAT in full screen on Windows Media player, but was in a little bit of slow motion. Fluid, not choppy, just slower than it should have been. VLC wouldn’t play it. Just would freeze. I’ll download the other player option that you mentioned.

I love the idea of 4K, but don’t know if the technical aspects are ready? Would appreciate an option. 4K for the models I really like would be great. Looking forward to it!

  28. asynxguy September 13, 2016 7:29 pm

Windows 10 and using Media Player Classic (MPC) worked fine for me.

  29. juehoe September 13, 2016 9:38 pm

Macbook Pro 15″ (mid 2012). Had to install the ABC player to play. QuickTime (or my Mac) don’t support 4K (yet).

  30. imnotfat1 September 13, 2016 11:53 pm

Mac Book Pro Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Running OSX Yosemite 10.10.5

    not working on quicktime 10.4
not working on VLC Version 2.2.1
tried to download Windows Media, but they want $10

  31. spameater September 14, 2016 5:31 am

Could only get the 4k video on windows based video players, windows media, and windows movies and tv. I tried a few other players with no go.

I did manage to get the video to run on Media Monkey.

While 4k would be awesome. I would be grateful for (true) 1080 p @ 60 fps.

  32. fmgfmg September 14, 2016 6:59 am

Addition to my post from yesterday (Win7 problems with WMP, VLC, PotPlayer): MPC works best and (nearly) perfect, but still needs >95% CPU capacity. MPV not really fluid (some freezing, but not much).

  33. clevbrfan99 September 14, 2016 9:33 am

Runs great for me. I see some people have problems though. Maybe have a 4k version and also a lower quality version for people that don’t have a computer that can run 4k videos. The picture is amazing btw.

  34. doc975 September 15, 2016 12:12 am

OS 10. Traditional players I just get sound. However, if I use the Windows 10 Movies and TV viewer it works fine. But VLC, Potplayer, Windows Media Player all only had sound. Quicktime wouldn’t play it at all.

  35. evanerv September 15, 2016 2:31 am

Awesome quality! It played great for me with MPC on Windows10.

  36. laumperdukes September 15, 2016 10:25 am

I can see the video just fine, and it looks great, but I don’t know if the massive file size is worth the improvement in quality.

I would want to have an opion for a smaller file size, or just keep the original smaller size.

  37. neugrey September 15, 2016 1:59 pm

I made the decision to rejoin after some time away just for this video! I’m glad you decided to upgrade some equipment, it seems. Quality is a must to be able to appreciate these beauties. Thank you! This makes me happy

  38. xvbetavx September 17, 2016 11:44 am

Runs great with Windows 10 like per_262_sil said when you play the video from start to finish the video says 4:02 but continues to play longer than that and exactly at 4:02 the audio does cut out.

Using VLC 2.2.4 (Latest Version) will not play just audio you can forward the video but that’s it.

I’m with most of everyone here for the 4K video’s amazing quality.

  39. rpfagi033 September 17, 2016 5:12 pm

OMG 4k YESS, btw great video. Thank you TBF and Thank you Luciana :)

  40. miami123 September 18, 2016 8:53 am

This is fantastic, much better than the 1080p, please continue!!!

  41. moxieman September 19, 2016 6:09 pm

Finally got it to play with MPV player on my win7 machine. I recommend putting a sticky link and recommendation to try MPV player with ever 4k video or photoset you post. Would save a lot of aggrievation (sp).

    Luciana IS beautiful.

  42. admin September 21, 2016 11:10 am

We will be working on adding two video qualities manually for any that are in 4K from now on. Unfortunately it seems a lot of people are having trouble playing the videos, but that shouldn’t stop others from enjoying the videos in full quality. There will be two versions, no more comments needed on whether the videos play or not, unless you have solutions for others having trouble.

  43. rararara September 23, 2016 8:19 pm

Just a quick update: My PC updated to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition and now the video plays flawlessly in Windows Media Player! Can’t wait for more like this!!
